In India, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is the primary education authority in the country. It was established in 1950 by the Government of India to provide a scientific and comprehensive study of the Indian educational system. NCERT has also issued guidelines for curriculum, textbook selection, teaching, and examination. The main objective of NCERT is to educate students in a way that will enable them to excel in school and college, and to become mature and responsible citizens.
NCERT books are divided into two categories:
Textbooks (पाठ्यकारी) and Reference Book (रूपनाएँ).
Textbooks are written in the form of a manual. They provide the necessary information for students to excel in their studies.
